  • Overview

    The Systems Engineer’s role is to help ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of on-premises and cloud information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.


    • Work with the Systems and Infrastructure team to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
    • This role will have a primary focus of working with hardware technologies and solutions such as Dell/EMC compute and storage arrays (XIO, VNX), Avamar backup solutions, EMC Data Domains, and ScaleIO software storage solutions
    • Management and support of all on-premises VMware and Hyper-V virtualization solutions
    • Management and support of Active Directory and WSUS
    • Contribute toward configuration management and automation efforts/standards
    • Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues
    • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions
    • Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts
    • Has a general understanding of LANs, WANs, wireless networks, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware
    • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades
    • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services
    • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems
    • Perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
    • Assist with the Integration of servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems
    • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records
    • Participate in off hours pager rotation (off hours pay in addition to salary is provided)


    Formal Education & Certification:

    College degree in computer science or software engineering and/or [2] years equivalent work experience

    Knowledge & Experience:

    • Experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products
    • Experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices
    • Efficient understanding of PKI/Certificate Management
    • Entry level knowledge with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and TCP/IP design and implementation
    • Experience with core software and applications (Windows, CentOS, MS SQL, MySQL, VMware, Hyper-V, IIS, Apache)
    • Software troubleshooting experience
    • Hardware troubleshooting experience
    • Working knowledge and excellent familiarity with load balancing technologies and      algorithms
    • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and      general network management best practices
    • Understands the organization’s goals and objectives
    • Understands data privacy practices and laws
