    MyWebGrocer is looking for a database architect that can establish the overall SQL Server and Database architectural vision. The database architect is someone who can strategically design, implement and maintain database systems, working with database administrators, software developers, architects and infrastructure engineers to create optimized and scalable solutions.  You will actively work across teams, supporting development efforts, our customers, and systems.


    • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server from architecture to administration including design, development, and optimization of SQL Server databases.  
    • Strategically design, develop, and implement databases for enterprise-level applications and systems.
    • Model, and oversee the administration of SQL Server and NoSQL databases by internal and external staff as well as third party providers.
    • Develop technologically advanced solutions to monitor and report on databases and the underlying management processes.
    • Defines data migration strategy to optimize the integration of data to new SQL databases
    • Ensure the database systems have ample storage and memory capacity as they grow and they are protected always with the proper security layers
    • Design High Availability, Disaster Recovery and backup/restore procedures/plans.
    • Assist principals and the DBA team in the oversight of monitoring and maintaining all Production Databases.
    • Oversee the deployment of new SQL database environments with a strong emphasis on security, reliability and scalability.
    • Direct proactive monitoring and oversee maintenance plans for non-Production databases to assure optimum performance and anticipate capacity constraints.
    • Perform and manage high-end performance tuning activities and assist developers in tuning queries.
    • Optimize stored procedures, UDFs, index clustering, table design, job design and job scheduling to optimize database performance.
    • Assist the DBA team in troubleshooting SQL Server service outages and issues as they occur, on a 24x7 basis.
    • Develop, support and promote standards for the secure and efficient use of sensitive information.
    • Complete resource estimates; prepare and execute project plans and timelines. Communicate progress, obstacles and plans effectively to stakeholders.
    • Lead periodic testing of backup/restore procedures and disaster recovery plans.
    • Manage security at all levels of SQL Server.
    • Work as a team member with product management, development, support, documentation, training and sales departments. Provide design input and approval where appropriate, during project estimation, design, development, QA and deployment phases.
    • Help lead the migration between SQL versions as appropriate.
    • Assist development and delivery teams in database upgrades and maintenance nights.
    • Work with domestic and offshore development and operations staff to understand their database needs. Develop solutions where needed and mentor when appropriate.
    • Lead database code reviews, ensuring accuracy, adherence to standards and dissemination of knowledge.
    • Promote, practice and require 100% usage of Source Code Control.
    • Research, implement and evangelize new methods and technologies to enhance performance, heighten security, ensure uptime, and automate common/redundant administrative duties.
    • Provide technical documentation, mentorship and cross-training to peers and team members. Serve as the in-house SQL Server database expert.
    • Mentor all DBAs so they can achieve a higher level of proficiency and qualifications
    • Complete other work requirements or tasks that are requested by management when necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the department or company.


    • Masters degree in computer science or related discipline or equivalent combined education and experience.
    • 10+ years database administration experience in large scale, high volume environments with increasing level of responsibility.
    • Certification (MCDBA, MCITP, MSC Master) or the ability to acquire it within the next 12 months.
    • Hands-on SQL Server 2012+ administration, database tuning and troubleshooting experience; knowledge of all standard SQL Server tools.
    • 5 years of technical team leadership with project management.
    • Expert in Azure.
    • Expert understanding of database structures, principles, and best practices.
    • Expert in automation and Powershell
    • Expert knowledge and experience creating and optimizing schemas, triggers, stored procedures, and user defined functions.
    • Exceptionally strong SQL, T-SQL, and DTS/SSIS package skills.
    • A self starter with ability to work in a fast paced environment bringing new ideas and technologies into the business.
    • Proven work experience with High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Performance Tuning, Security and Replication.
    • Expert knowledge of Windows Server 2012; good Active Directory knowledge.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability and flexibility to perform a number of engineering tasks at one time unsupervised.
    • Evidence of leadership competencies including team building, self confidence, results orientation and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to be on call 24/7/365 to sustain availability and SLA.
    • Experience with other databases such as Mongo DB.
    • Desire to learn and master other database technologies as needed.
    • Attention to detail is critical.
